Walter Kirn, author of Up in the Air and Blood Will Out, speaks at the KC Library tonight
One of the more enjoyable New Yorker pieces I’ve read in the last year or so is “Pedigree,” by Walter Kirn. It’s a memoir of sorts about Kirn — the author of Up in the Air and Thumbsucker, both of which have been adapted into critically acclaimed films — and his relationship with a banker/art collector/socialite named Clark Rockefeller. The man turns out to be not just a serial impostor but … well, just read it here, now that The New Yorker has temporarily opened up its archive dating back to 2007.
Kirn subsequently published a full-length book on the subject, Blood Will Out: The True Story of a Murder, a Mystery and a Masquerade, released earlier this year. Tonight, he’ll be at the Kansas City Public Library Central branch (14 W. 10th Street) to talk about Blood Will Out and his other work, which includes several novels, nonfiction books and literary criticism.
The talk starts at 6:30 p.m. It’s free, but RSVP here.
