In this week’s edition of The Pitch, I took a look at the sketchy track record of the Kinfolks Soul Food Festival. Its stops in St. Louis and Denver this summer have received pathetic reviews from both attendees and the cities that hosted them. Kinfolks’ KC stop was Saturday at Parade Park. I didn’t make it out, but based on the comments section on my column and several Twitter posts, it doesn’t look as though the KC stop was a resounding success, either.

There was also, tragically, a homicide near Parade Park’s northeast corner sometime after midnight. Darrell Fennell, 30, was pronounced dead of gunshot wounds at Truman Road and Woodland Avenue at 1:15 a.m. No word yet if the shooting was connected to events at the Soul Food Festival. Anyone with information is urged to call the TIPS hotline, at 816-474-8477.
