DJ Highnoone

Johnny’s Tavern in Shawnee pulls off the suburban-sports-bar-and-dance-club thing better than most. DJ Highnoone, who spins there every Wednesday night, has something to do with that. Highnoone learned the mashup style from DJ Jamie J at Blonde, and he also cites DJ P as an influence. Highnoone’s use of Serato — which allows a DJ to make a ton of mashups in a short amount of time — sometimes leads to overkill. Don’t get us wrong, Highnoone is a relatively solid DJ, but there’s a misconception out there that if you take the vocal track from one bad song and put it on top of the instrumental of another bad song, you get one great song. Not always true. The mashup is just like any other genre: 90 percent of it is bullshit, and the rest is all right. But in spite of his annoying white headphones and mashup-happy style, Highnoone gets the job done.
