Undergoing a metamorphosis is an inherently messy and uncomfortable experience. Both the Chiefs and the Vikings, who face off in today’s Arrowhead home opener, have recently experienced painful changes, altering the ideologies and personalities of both franchises. The Chiefs have moved from the manic passing attack of the Dick Vermeil era to the more conservative approach of Head Coach Herm Edwards. Whether this will lead to something productive or just a new depressive chapter is unclear, but fans can attest that the product right now is just plain hard to watch. Three years ago, the Vikings rid themselves of the flashy, narcissistic and destructive Randy Moss, like someone finally shedding a self-centered girlfriend. Maybe this decision will ultimately advance Minnesota to the Super Bowl, but the Vikings have yet to make the playoffs in the new regime. Tickets cost $54 to $103; parking costs $22.
