Teachers Read

Tonight, a free event at the Writers Place (3607 Pennsylvania, 816-753-1090) showcases work by two new members of the University of Missouri-Kansas City Department of English. Taking the mic at the UMKC New Faculty Reading: assistant professors Hadara Bar-Nadav, a poet, and Christie Hodgen, a novelist.
Bar-Nadav reads from her latest collection, A Glass of Milk to Kiss Goodnight. As an acclaimed poet, Bar-Nadav makes little distinction between poetry and visual art. “For me, there’s a real organic leap from art to architecture that I explore,” she explains. “Architecture and landscape keep changing. It’s a source of inspiration.” Sharing her work at readings also stirs her creativity. “It definitely encourages me to always think about the work in a new way,” she says. “It’s heartening to see so much interest.” The reading begins at 7:30 p.m.
