Sisters in Crime, an organization promoting the advancement of women who write mystery novels, is 20 years old. The group celebrates the anniversary with the release of an anthology of stories by members called Sisters on the Case, which includes a story from member and Kansas resident Nancy Pickard, author of The Virgin of Small Plains. She reads her work and talks about the organization at today’s 2 p.m. book-signing event at the I Love A Mystery bookstore (6114 Johnson Drive in Mission, 913-432-2583). Store manager Becky West says, “The Virgin of Small Plains was nominated for an Edgar and received an award for Kansas Notable Book Award from the Kansas Library of Congress. It’s a terrific book.”
