Bazaar Explosion
What began in a Lawrence living room 18 years ago has become one of the area’s most anticipated art shows. Six female artists organized Bizarre Bazaar in 1989. “The art shows that were juried were too expensive, and the craft shows didn’t really fit the bill for their art,” says Kris Barlow, Bizarre Bazaar coordinator. Over the years, the event has outgrown the living room; it now fills three floors of the Lawrence Arts Center (940 New Hampshire, 785-843-2787). The sale goes from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today. Local musicians will keep the tempo as shoppers search for just the right gift, be it an ornament made of chicken feet or a cozy scarf. The bazaar includes the work of roughly 125 local artists, with art ranging in price from $10 to $50. Admission is free. For more information, see <bizarrebaz.com.
