Divine Delicacies

Thousands of years before doctors began touting the benefits of wine and chocolate consumption, the ancients knew the score. The Greeks called wine the juice of the gods. The Aztec emperor Montezuma is said to have drunk nothing but chocolate and described it as the “divine drink, which builds up resistance and fights fatigue.” Tonight, the International Visitors Council of Greater Kansas City gives you the chance to feast like the ancients at its annual Chocolate & Wine Festival, a fundraiser that runs from 5 to 9 p.m. in the Pershing Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Crown Center (2345 McGee). A variety of specialty chocolates and wines will be available for tasting. If you go just for the chocolate, admission is $8 in advance or $10 at the door. To sample the chocolate and the wines, plan to spend $25 in advance or $30 at the door. Call 816-374-5477 for tickets and information.
