Go Out to the Ballgame
To fans of Major League Baseball, April marks the start of six months of hearing cracking bats. With collegiate baseball, an aluminum ping replaces the sound of wood hitting leather, and the season begins in the gray days of February. Tonight at 7, witness KU take on the Wichita State Shockers at Hoglund Ballpark (adjacent Allen Fieldhouse, 1700 Naismith in Lawrence). Wichita State is one of the most successful college baseball teams, having won more games than any other program in the past three decades. Kansas is not nearly as successful but plays at a ballpark named for Forrest Hoglund, who played for the KU baseball team in the ’50s and is a former CEO of Enron. As a result, the team may benefit from creative scorekeeping. Tickets cost $4 for kids and $6 for adults. Call 785-864-3141 for details.
