New Place for Art in Lawrence

When you picture a group of artists living in Lawrence, you expect quirky. Give them a gallery called Wonder Fair: Art Gallery and How! and you get whimsical. “The opportunities are endless,” says gallery owner Eric Dobbins. “Once the doors fly off, we’ll just have to buckle up and see where it takes us.” The doors fly open tonight for Wonder Fair’s inaugural art show — I Like That Idea a Lot, featuring works by members of Lawrence’s Fresh Produce Art Collective. The exhibit, which features a wide array of mediums, opens from 6 to 9 tonight and runs until the end of May. In addition to the show, Wonder Fair offers a frame shop on site and sells prints and shirts emblazoned with local artwork. For those looking to purchase a little art for not a lot, Dobbins has converted an old cigarette vending machine into a “Wonder Box Art Vend,” through which patrons can purchase small wood-block originals for $5. Wonder Fair is located in the lower level of the newly opened Casbah natural-foods store (803 Massachusetts). See Wonder Fair: Art Gallery and How!.
