Whoop It Up

Guaranteeing to lengthen attention spans and encourage contained craziness, the Urban Culture Project rolls out another installment of the kid-friendly Whoop Dee Doo! The brainchild of directors Jaimie Warren and Matt Roche, the edgy, public-access-TV-like project brings together the local creative community to tape a live amalgamation of performance art, contests and skits at La Esquina (1000 West 25th Street, 816-221-5115). Think Soul Train making a stop at Pee Wee’s Playhouse while Mr. Wizard and the Muppets hang out. Past performers include the Marching Cobras, the Ssion and David Wayne Reed. Get in on the magic now before the show travels to the Deitch Gallery in New York and the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, next year. Due to limited seating, kids and those in costumes will be admitted first and should be comfortable with being on camera. For more information, see myspace.com/whoopdeedookansascity.
