Feelin’ the ’50s

Through its current production at Off Center Theatre (2450 Grand, on
the third floor of Crown Center), Musical Theater Heritage offers a
musical time warp into the 1950s. Anyone who has seen the similarly
nostalgic show Forever Plaid will recognize the format of
The Taffetas. Four singers from Muncie, Indiana —
in this case, young women about to make their vocal debut on national
television — belt out the beautiful harmonies of familiar
classics from the era of poodle skirts and sock hops. “It really is
good, cheesy fun,” says marketing director and co-producer Chad Gerlt.
“I look out into our audience every night and see everyone smiling,
singing and holding hands with their honeys. I think it reminds
everyone of the good old days.” The show closes this weekend. Remaining
performances are at 8 tonight, Friday and Saturday, and at 2 and 7 p.m.
Sunday. Tickets cost $25 or $12 for students. Call 816-842-9999 or see

Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 2 & 7 p.m. Starts: May 7. Continues through May 24, 2009
