New Art in the Old Neighborhood

The historic Northeast has its share of small, independent art galleries, most of which sit out the spectacle of Kansas City’s First Fridays in favor of Third Friday openings. The Trap (525 Gillis), in the Columbus Park neighborhood, hosts its third opening for Kansas City artist Erick Warner, whose experimentations over the years with style and technique have revealed versatility and a contemporary visual dynamic. Gallery owner Dan Frueh says, “Erick works in advertising and paints on the side. His first show here was very representational, including a lot of graphic depictions of switchblades and stuff like that, very much informed by his graphic design and advertising work. The second show was all abstract. Now he’s working kind of halfway in between. He’s getting back into representational work with some of the looseness of his abstract work, an amalgam of styles.” Tonight’s opening is from 6 to 9.
