Pioneering salsa label Fania Records was founded in 1964 when a Dominican bandleader and an Italian-American lawyer hooked up to mix and record the Puerto Rican and Cuban sounds emerging from Spanish Harlem, the Bronx and points in between and placed them in the American mainstream. Four years later, the Fania All-Stars were formed, launching the American careers of such artists as Celia Cruz, Tito Puente and Larry Harlow. Tonight, join the multi-instrumentalist and bandleader Harlow, sometimes referred to as el Judio Maravilloso, when he joins local 25-year veteran and fellow Fania All-Star Miguel “Mambo” DeLeon for Summer Salsa Fever at VooDoo Lounge (Harrah’s Casino, 1 Riverboat Drive, 816-472-7777). Also on the bill are DJ Jalepeno, DJ El Rumbero and the KC Salsa Dancers.
