Eat Your Lawn

Using the expanse of land in front of your house to grow vegetables instead of grass is a concept that young people seem to go along with quicker than older folks, says Steve Mann, one of the founders of the KC Food Not Lawns collaborative. Whatever your age, Mann and his partner in environmental activism, Toby Grotz, will sell you on sustainable gardening during a workshop from 10 a.m. to noon today at BadSeed (1909 McGee). “We’ll be looking at peak oil, climate change, food security and how growing your own food in your yard helps mitigate all the effects of these processes,” Mann says. The class fee is $16. Advance registration is requested but not required. Contact Mann at steve@foodnotlawnskc.org or 816-352-9213.
