Mmm, Beer

Thirty-two years ago, Steven Petrosino of Cumberland, Pennsylvania, set the world record for beer drinking when he guzzled 33 ounces in 1.3 seconds. Petrosino’s feat lives forever because the Guinness Book of World Records has since stopped recording food- and drink-related stunts (owing to their potential health and litigation risks). The sample glasses at BrewFest presented by UNICO-Kansas City are only four ounces — not quite enough for any type of beer-chugging record but enough to try out O’Fallon Brewery’s Wheach or its 5-Day IPA. More than 40 beers from 15 Missouri breweries will be featured, including Schlafly, Boulevard and the Weston Brewing Company. From 3 to 9 p.m. today, head to the Town Square at Zona Rosa (Interstate 29 and Barry Road). There’s food from Scimeca’s Famous Italian Sausage Company and Charlie & Drew’s. Jump swingers Grand Marquis and the Blue Shakers provide the entertainment. If you didn’t pick up your $20 advance ticket at the Zona Rosa Guest Services office (8640 North Dixson Avenue, 816-587-8180) by August 14, get one at the gate for $25. See zonarosa.com for more info.
