A Slick Ride

Celebrate KC’s blue-collar roots from noon to midnight today and Sunday at the ninth-annual Kowtown Custom Greaserama. The Boulevard Drive-In (1051 Merriam Lane, 913-262-2414) plays host to around 50 food, clothing and art vendors and eight musical acts (including a rare appearance by Sister Mary Rotten Crotch) playing punk, rockabilly and country. Get a look at Lily’s Greasy Gallery (a mobile Kustom Kulture art display) and a scale model display sponsored by the model car club KC Slammers. New to the event this year is a no-gas, alternative-powered-vehicle expo, perfect for the energy-efficient gearhead. Keep with the theme after dusk when THX 1138 and Rollerball play on the drive-in’s screen. All this grease-flavored action, plus the visual delight of approximately 700 cars, is yours for a $10 admission price.
Sat., Sept. 5, noon-midnight; Sun., Sept. 6, noon-midnight, 2009
