More Colorful Than You Know

Whatever your liberal-arts-degree liberalism may dictate about the literary canon and minority authors, the canon has nothing against dead, blind, white men. Homer, Milton and Joyce all lived significant parts of their lives without the benefit of sight, and (Finnegans Wake excepted) it never stopped them from creating some of the most beautiful lines ever written. Now, VSA Arts of Missouri (816-868-1789), a statewide organization dedicated to promoting the work of artists with disabilities, has published the anthology Blindness Isn’t Black. Some of these Show-Me authors read from their work today at 2 p.m. at the Writers Place (3607 Pennsylvania, 816-753-1090).
