THE OBJECT OF OUR AFFLECKTION

Wellesian in girth if not exactly in talent — if Clerks is his Kane, is Mallrats his Magnificent Ambersons? — filmmaker Kevin Smith has nonetheless won the loyalty of an adoring demographic with which he shares a love of pop culture, profanity and pushing the boundaries of taste. In addition to writing, directing and acting, Smith has added raconteur to his résumé, emerging as his generation’s Bogdanovich thanks to his SModcast (co-hosted with longtime producing partner Scott Mosier) and his legendary Q&A appearances at Comic-Con and other fanboy-rich environments. Fueled by the critical drubbing of Cop Out and his recent ejection from a Southwest Airlines flight for circumferential reasons, Smith will artfully f-bomb the Midland (1228 Main, 816-283-9921 ) during “Silent Bob Speaks: An Evening With Kevin Smith. The laughs start at 8 p.m. Tickets range from $29.50 to $65; to order, see midlandkc.com.
