Mad About McPhee

Affiliation with such publications as Time and the New Yorker automatically lends weight to a writer’s name. The Ivy League-educated John McPhee started his career at the former and has been a staff writer at the latter since 1965, while managing to write 27 books on such subjects as modern-day cattle rustling, ecology, family doctors, geology and oranges. As part of its Writers at Work series, the Kansas City Public Library brings the 79-year-old writer face to face with readers. He talks about his craft at 6:30 p.m. at the Central Library (14 West 10th Street, 816-701-3407). Mingle with McPhee before his talk at a 6 p.m. reception. See kclibrary.org for additional information.
