flip the beer

Like rushed final papers and extra-long twin beds, flip cup stands out in the collective, if somewhat fuzzy, memory of college. Relive those days of yore at Tower Tavern (401 East 31st Street, 816-931-9300) while raising money for Harvesters, an organization devoted to helping the hungry. Now in its third year, the bar’s flip cup tournament will benefit a charity for the first time. A portion of the $75 team entry fee (which includes free beer) will go toward Harvesters, which was selected as a beneficiary of flip-cup funds by the World Adult Kickball Association, the tournament sponsor. Starting at 6 p.m., teams of five will go head-to-head in a “pool play” first round before being seeded and moving on to single elimination play. The top three teams will receive a cash prize and the knowledge that their livers didn’t suffer in vain.— Anthonia Akitunde
