Lar Barre

Lar Lubovitch is a fun name to say: The first word rolls off the tongue, leading the lips into the gentle purse of loo and the soft push of bo that collapses under the staccato vitch. This little syllabic dance belongs to a master choreographer of moving bodies. The Chicago-born Lubovitch founded his New York dance company in 1968. Ten years later, he coordinated the first dance ever set to a composition by Philip Glass. That piece, “North Star,” is part of the program that the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company brings to Yardley Hall, at Johnson County Community College’s Carlsen Center (12345 College Boulevard, Overland Park, 913-469-4445) at 8 p.m. Hear the man with the beautiful moniker talk about his life and work following the performance. Tickets cost $35 and $45; see jccc.edu/theseries.
