Jackson County prosecutors charged Vincent R. Muzquiz with unlawful use of weapons (drive-by shootings) and armed criminal action today in connection with the death of Rebecca Amparan-Chacon.

Court records say 21-year-old Muzquiz, also known as “Big V,” showed up at a tavern on Southwest Boulevard Friday around 11:25 p.m. A witness told police that Muzquiz was upset, wouldn’t talk to him and then pulled out a gun and fired it at another customer who was standing outside the business. A woman tried to calm Muzquiz, but he shot her.

Court records say Muzquiz told detectives that he may have shot one woman but “he wasn’t positive.” He said he may have shot Chacon while running toward the back of the business and firing three more shots, but “he wasn’t positive.”

When police arrived at the scene of the shooting, the found a 45-year-old woman with a non-life threatening gunshot wound. They also found 27-year-old Chacon with a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
