MP3: John Bersuch and Nate Skeen Smith, “A Bassett Friend”

John Bersuch (of Minds Under Cover and Bacon Shoe infamy) recently hipped us to a new tune he recorded on Christmas Eve. It’s not necessarily a holiday song per se, but certainly qualifies as something to which you should get your ear holes turned towards.

The story, per Mr. Bersuch:

Last night I went to my moms to celebrate xmas, I was going to stay the night there but I really wanted to go down to the Record Bar. So I braved the snow and drove back to KC from Lee’s Summit.. I met this guy named Nate that I had only met one other time at a Minds Under Cover show. He was on foot so I gave him a lift. After stopping by Gusto, we went back to his place which was very close… I wasn’t tired, either was he, so we wrote a song. It took about 3 hours to write and practice up. Then we recorded it on my ipod mic. He played keyboards on my iphone running through a stereo, and I played acoustic guitar, sang, and tapped my foot on a glass jar lid with quarters in it. We were in his big living room with wood floors and wood cielings so it sounds pretty neat I think. This is what we came up with…. It’s called “A Bassett Friend”. I guess you could say in a way it’s a christmas song too because we made it on Christmas Eve and finished at 7am. So I hope you like it….

I can’t decide what’s more odd — the story or the song itself.
