Underground Music Blog Noise for Zeros a 10 for Conduct

How does Dan Fogelberg ‘s “Same Auld Lang Syne” go? Something about running into your old art director in the grocery store? That doesn’t sound right. But it was New Year’s Eve when I ran into gifted former Pitch art director Doug Kubert, whose knowledge of obscure music is terrifying and vaguely mystical. Not long after that he sent me a link to his newish music blog, Noise for Zeros.

Subtitled “Music From the Unsung Underground,” Kubert’s extracurricular undertaking does for his extensive collection of prime-zine-era punk, postpunk, heartland noise, tiny-label seven-inches and other holy-shit flotsam what Little Hits does for its slightly more pop-minded gurus’ stacks. That means it’s a must-read for anyone interested in off-the-dial listening — including current stuff, local acts and sub-catalog reissues such as the music assembled for Kubert’s best-of-2008 list.
