Tonight: Flannigan’s Right Hook, Spin Magazine Party, Spin Pizza Party

If your Memorial Day Weekend was anything like the Wayward Son’s, then tonight is for shoring up, burning the laundry, throwing away the dishes and reaming out the liver. But for nightlife wolves, there’s plenty of interesting shit to see and do, particularly in Westport.
Stately, svelte Irish rock trio Flannigan’s Right Hook is playing at the Dark Horse. The band also plays every Wednesday at Fuel in Overland Park and Friday’s at Llewelyn’s at 151st and Metcalf. But those places are far away. If you’re a fan of Irish and/or fiddle music, check these lads out. Also, ask them how it went for them playing at the Heartland Pagan Festival this past weekend.
It seems that SPIN — the national music magazine — is throwing a party at the Record Bar featuring “ridiculously low” drink specials. I will try not to be offended that I was not contacted directly about the party — I mean shouldn’t us being comrades in the dying print music journalism business warrant at least an E-vite or something? If you go, ask them when they’re gonna put the Tigers on the cover already. DJ Just and Tulipana spin for Spin. No cover.
Coincidentally, Spin! — the local Neapolitan pizza chain — is beginning its “Folk on the Patio” summer concert series next Tuesday June 2, with free singer-songwriter performances from 6 to 8 p.m. every Tuesday at all four area locations.
On the jazz tip, KC-bred, NYC-based saxophonist Logan Richardson returns home this week with shows tonight and tomorrow at Jardine’s. He’ll put on two shows each night, at 7 and 9 p.m., with a $5 cover at each. He’ll also be at the Blue Room this Saturday. Local jazz blogger Plastic Sax posted a few words and a video of Richardson last week.
