Salt-N-Pepa push it old-school style with Biz Markie, Doug E. Fresh and more on Saturday night

It’s been about 25 years since the members of Salt-N-Pepa met at Queensborough Community College and started rapping together. In 1986, the trio released Hot, Cool & Vicious, with its breakthrough hit, “Push It.” (Yes, you’re getting old.) After winning a Grammy, making their acting debuts and selling a ton of records, the trio broke up in 2002. Five years later, Cheryl “Salt” James Wray and Sandy “Pepa” Denton starred in their own VH1 show, The Salt-N-Pepa Show. (DJ Spinderella, the group’s third member, appeared several times on the show, too.) It chronicled Denton’s bitterness about the breakup and Wray’s relationship with the man upstairs, finding time as well for hair-weave endorsements and the conflicts that ensue when Pepa wants to perform again but Salt can’t hang with her questionable lyrics. Fast-forward to 2011: Wray is back in the saddle, and the first ladies of hip-hop are bringin’ the show to Municipal Auditorium for the Legends of Hip-Hop Tour.
