Brunch up with the Grand Marquis, and other Mardi Gras activities
WOO! I was going to post about how the Brick is offering up a Sunday New Orleans-style brunch with music by the Grand Marquis, and then maybe give an info-byte or two about Tuesday’s parade (which is back, yay!!!), but I just realized that my friend and colleague Nadia Pflaum has just Plogged a comprehensive list of Kansas City Mardi Gras weekend activities.
The key event is on, of course, Fat Tuesday. Writes Nadia…
The place to be tonight for the most authentic celebration, with homegrown costumes, brass bands, floats and chaos, is the annual 18th Street Mardi Gras parade. It starts at YJ’s, 18th and Wyandotte, and goes from 6 to 9 p.m. Look out for floats by the Krewe de Zoo, the Krewe de Maximon, the Top ‘o’ the Bottoms Social Aid and Pleasure Club, and the Secret Society of Sirens. Birdies panty shop plans to place beguiling ladies behind the shop’s windows, like in Amsterdam (but no touchy!). When the parade starts, it will tromp east on 18th Street, ending at the Jazz District, 18th and Vine, culminating in an insane street party. Or so we presume.
My work here is done.
