Janelle Monae is nominated for a Grammy — again

The Kansas City Kansas native has been churning out one stellar release after another since she adopted her space-girl alter-ego in her 2007 album, Metropolis: Suite I (The Chase). (Janelle Monae stopped by Liberty Hall in Lawrence earlier this year with Of Montreal, and killed it: read the review here. You can also check out our story on Monae’s deep roots in the historic Quindaro neighborhood here.)

Monae is nominated for Best Urban/Alternative performance for “Many Moons” in 2009, and now, she’s nominated for Best Contemporary R&B Album for The ArchAndroid. (She’s up against Usher, Chris Brown, and R. Kelly, to name a few. Go, girl, go.) Wondering why she isn’t up for Best New Artist? We are, too.
