Hearne Christopher Jr. charged with DUI

Former Kansas City Star gossip columnist Hearne Christopher Jr. has been charged with driving under the influence, according to police in Prairie Village. Christopher was arrested in the 3100 block of West 79th Street at 2:38 a.m. today.

Christopher first reported his arrest on his blog, filing his report at 5:42 a.m.

Christopher wrote that he was returning home from the Plaza when he “rolled a stop sign” and “drove left of center” on 77th and Booth, and was then stopped in his driveway and arrested.

Christopher wrote (emphasis his own):

When my “mug shot” came out with exaggerated shadows under my eyes, I asked for a retake. Officer Porter — the victim of my photographing him during the experience — countered with an offer to reshoot it if I would agree not to use his photos.

I did not agree. So the photo was not retaken, even though he agreed the photo of me was unusually inaccurate.

“Are you saying you’re going to paint me in a bad light,” Porter queried. No way, I answered. Just the facts, man.

Christopher wrote that he posted $1,000 bond and is awaiting a court date in Prairie Village Municipal Court.
