Michael Lombardo latest man to drop in illegal sports gambling operation

The local guys who ran an illegal sports gambling ring keep falling.

The latest, Michael J. Lombardo, pleaded guilty in federal court yesterday to running an illegal gambling business.

Lombardo, 57, not the HBO programming exec with the same name, admitted for three years he took care of bettors who wagered more than $490,976 from March 2006 to March 31, 2009. He agreed to forfeit a paltry $4,000 — his share of the profits. So for $4,000 he’s looking at up to five years at club fed without parole and a six-figure fine. That doesn’t sound right.
