Serial rapist may be on the loose in Kansas City

After a pair of rapes over the weekend, Kansas City police say a serial rapist may be on the loose.

Police say a man broke into a home in the 8300 block of Mercier Street and sexually assaulted a 53-year-old woman after she came home from work around 9:50 p.m. on Saturday.

Less than two hours later, a man sexually assaulted a 50-year-old woman while she was letting her dogs out in the 10 block of East Porte Cimi Pas, which is less than two miles from the site of the first attack.

Police believe the same man who committed these rapes is responsible for raping two women in the Waldo area last fall.

The suspect in the Waldo cases was described as a black man with “a deep, smooth voice” who smelled of smoke. He is said to be about 6-feet tall, 250 pounds, bald with pitted cheeks and possible acne scars. The man allegedly told a recent victim that he is 27 years old, although police believe he is lying about his age. Another victim told police that the man “had very bad breath” and his clothes smelled of exhaust fumes.

Expect increased patrols in the neighborhoods where the man struck,

police say. Police are also encouraging people to keep their doors and

windows locked.
