Night + Day picks: What to do this weekend

1. Get a tattoo. Or at least figure out what you’re gonna get. Today through Sunday, the Uptown Theater hosts the Real Deal Tattoo Convention, an inkfest that features tattoo celebrities, tattoo experts and tattooed burlesque dancers.

2. Spend the first evening of the weekend at a church. Seriously, if you’re into Celtic music, watching blond fiddler babe Natalie MacMaster tonight at Church of the Resurrection will be worth it.

3. Flaunt your green. St. Patrick’s Day may not officially happen until next Wednesday, but the annual parades, Irish festivals and unstoppable flow of green beer begins on Saturday.
4. Learn how to kick and punch — skills that could come in handy as legions of frat boys get drunk and belligerently Irish over the next few days. From 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Ward Parkway Center hosts a free situational awareness and self protection class.
5. See a play that’s halfway done. For the Unicorn Theater’s In-Progress New Play Reading Series, on Sunday a cast of local theater stars directed by Ron McGee read from the script of The Underneath, a mystery set in Hawaii.
