Angry mob at Instant Tax Service at 39th and Main

Snapped this photo of the scene outside the Instant Tax Service office on 39th Street (just off Main) around 1 p.m. today. Obscured by the police horse are about half a dozen people who were trying to collect their income tax checks. Inside were a handful of other people and a handful of police officers. (Out of the shot is another police cruiser.)

The angry folks were unhappy with what they say is Instant Tax Service’s lack of speedy — instant? — results. One woman told me that she was told her check wouldn’t arrive until January 29.
