The Scream supports recalling Mayor Funkhouser

The petition drive to recall oversized novelty mayor Mark Funkhouser is

down to the wire with only three days left to get the 17,000 signatures

needed to put the issue before voters. Kansas City Star columnist Steve Kraske’s Up To Date talk show — 11 a.m. today on KCUR 89.3

— will be devoted to the recall effort with a showdown between Harris

Wilder, one of the petition’s organizers and a local attorney, and

George Blackwood, a Funkhouser ally and former city councilman.

I’d heard that there was a drive-through recall-the-Funk station at Valentine and Broadway, but that turned out not to be true. A couple of the organizers — Michael Hart and Michael Pozun — were hanging out outside the former Blockbuster video at 3625 Broadway.

I showed up around 5:30 p.m., and no one stopped by to sign the petition in the five minutes that

I was there. But Hart told me about 65 people had signed

the petition since they opened up shop, and more people were

volunteering. And they’re open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

They’re also selling T-shirts for $10.

Looks like a celebrity is supporting the cause: The Scream.
