Killa City: Djuan D. Hatten, two others gunned down Domineak L. Bynum, police allege

Djuan D. Hatten told detectives that he and two other men waited for Domineak L. Bynum to leave a house at 10105 Fremont and then opened fire on him, court records say.

Jackson County prosecutors charged Hatten, 21, with first-degree murder and armed criminal action Tuesday in the death of 19-year-old Bynum.

A witness told police that she and her child were waiting for Bynum in a vehicle in front of 10105 Fremont on May 19. The woman heard several gunshots moments after Bynum walked to the passenger side of the woman’s vehicle. Bynum ducked for cover. Five bullets pierced the woman’s vehicle. The woman threw the vehicle in reverse and drove backwards down the street and fled the neighborhood.

Police on the scene found Bynum suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The next day, doctors declared Bynum “brain dead.” His body was kept alive by a machine while his organs were collected for donation. He died after being removed from the machine.

Detectives found several 45-caliber shell casing in a yard southwest of where Bynum was shot.

On May 22, police were dispatched to 6005 E. 98th Street in regards to a suspicious vehicle. Inside the car, officers found Djuan D. Hatten, a 45-caliber pistol and a small amount of marijuana. They arrested Hatten.

The KCPD’s crime lab tested Hatten’s gun with shell casings found at the scene and determined Hatten’s gun was used in the shooting.

Court records say Hatten admitted shooting at Bynum with the 45-caliber gun. He told detectives that he and 22-year-old Ronnell E. Pearson and 24-year-old Terrel Diamond went to 10105 Fremont and waited for Bynum to leave the house. When he did, they opened fire — Hatten with his 45-caliber gun and the other two men with 9-mm handguns. Detectives returned to the scene and found 9-mm shell casings in a location pointed out by Hatten.
