Karaoke a Lo-Lo

The key to getting through a karaoke night without being overrun by X Factor wannabes lies with a strong KJ who knows what the crowd wants. “I’ve had a long-standing ban on Meat Loaf. I lifted it awhile back, mostly because Meat Loaf songs are long enough for me to use the bathroom and have a cigarette, maybe even flirt with some frat boy. But once I quit smoking, all bets were off,” says Lo Demanche, local diva and karaoke host, now appearing on Tuesdays at Pizza Bar in the Power & Light District (1320 Grand, 816-221-8466), from 9:30 p.m. until 2:30 a.m. “Karaoke is supposed to be fun. People that take it too seriously don’t last long at my shows because I’ll tell them to lighten that shit up.” Those with service-industry cards get half off all drinks; everyone else can buy large $5 drafts.
