Sporting Kansas City crawls out of the cellar (video)

Can a seven-game unbeaten streak be called a hot streak if it includes four ties? Maybe a warm streak? Sure, why not? Sporting Kansas City beat the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1 Saturday, extending their un-cold streak for another game, and getting them out of last place in the Eastern Conference.
Funny story about the stretch: When I was writing a feature about the team, the season was shaping up to be a dismal one. They were losing badly, and refs were giving them cards like it was their birthdays. So when coach Peter Vermes and announcer Callum Williams both told me in interviews that the team had changed following a 5-0 blowout of the New England Revolution in a U.S. Open Cup match, I thought they were giving me the company line. Sporting had finally turned the corner, they each insisted. Now it’s looking like they knew what they were talking about. Video of Saturday’s goals after the jump.
