Sporting KC magically turns a 2-0 lead into a 3-2 loss
That loud, anguished sound you heard Saturday night emanating from Kansas was the result of Sporting Kansas City’s frustrating loss to FC Dallas. Sporting had everything going for it, coming off a stretch of three wins in four games. And with a record Livestrong Sporting Park crowd of 20,018, Sporting took a 2-0 lead over Dallas. Everything was going their way … until they blew the whole thing in spectacular fashion. The whole team, it appeared, had decided to leave goalkeeper Jimmy “One-Eyed Jimmy” Nielsen to fend for himself. And FC Dallas took advantage.
Dallas struck in the 70th minute, then again in the 89th. A few minutes later, in stoppage time, Bobby Warsaw tallied his first career MLS goal off a header in front of the goal, bringing the disaster to an end. It was breathtaking. The loss leaves Sporting in second place in the Eastern Conference, four points behind the Columbus Crew, and a single point ahead of the Houston Dynamo with nine games left to play.
