Out of Time & Space Astrology

Virgo/Virgo Rising* (Aug 22-Sept 22): Still feel as if you’re walking 10 paces behind yourself, and wearing a burka? Well, that’s because you are. Not to pile on, but one of your guardians, Mercury, won’t begin to cover new ground until September 9. Allow for the slow and arduous process of going through motions. This faux ‘action’ acts as a cover screen so you can delineate which recently made decisions were necessary and which were capricious. Take some time off from being everyone’s servant to serve your Self. The Big ‘S’ Self represents the part of your being that has the larger purpose for your life. Hell, Virgo, you can plan anything with an exceptional command of the devilish details, but assessing the purpose of your life? That is one heaping grits of a challenge. A slow mind does not necessarily mean a defective one. And purposeful action, however far off script, triumphs over playing a role in which you have too many lingering doubts of your authenticity.

Libra/Libra Rising* (Sep 23-Oct 22): It is not as if you are all dressed up with no place to go. It is more like you don’t like what you have chosen to wear. Or you don’t feel as if you are wearing clothing that is age appropriate. It is time to contemplate the meaning of clothing in your life. Back in the days of acceptable female repression, clothing was one of the only ways a woman could express herself. Today’s symbolic use of attire has to deal with your transformation of wanting to be real versus fake. You do realize you can easily be the sign of “when in Rome, do as the Romans do” or “what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas”? Trust your innermost self to know when it is recommended to go along to get along and when it is time to take a stand. Know when to end any and all repression!

Scorpio/Scorpio Rising* (Oct 23-Nov 21): Similar to Gemini, you have a need to integrate your masculine and feminine energies, yang and yin, respectively. Different from Gemini, though, this happens on the amorphous feeling plane, not the intellectual one. You are to sense when to be open and nurturing or focused and self-directed. At certain points in your life, thought does not work. Excessive thinking for you places you in the area where the one gets sacrificed for the 1000. Too much idealism and rationalization leaves you like a dust particle awaiting to be picked up by a broom. While firecracker Mars moves through compatible water sign of Cancer, it would behoove you to act on your more receptive impulses. To utilize your urge to merge nets more than a willful one trick pony act. Continues in Gemini.

Sagittarius/Sagittarius Rising* (Nov 22-Dec 19): Your guardian angel, Jupiter, went retrograde a couple of days ago in Taurus. Taurus, while enticing and beautiful to you, is not the most compatible sign to you. You are full of high flying fire and free spirited. Taurus is the bird in the hand; they are usually looking for the birds in the bush. Where you do work is amassing pleasurable experiences. Jupiter moves again on Christmas, so I’d suggest deciding now what kind of payoff holiday fun. Rarely do you shy away from thinking about winning the future on your own terms. Realign your lower and smaller minded desires to what would satisfy more inclusive and all encompassing aims. These next four months will be good to you. See the majestic spirit in everything and everyone around. Through keeping it simple, you become sublime.

Capricorn/Capricorn Rising* (Dec 21-Jan 19): Sometimes I imagine that my life has a soundtrack. It is a movie. One of your songs would be George Michael’s “Father Figure.” Be you male or female, daddy issues, be they biological, adopted or spiritual, can loom large. You can even have a ‘mom-as-dad’ hangover. The hangover of seeing your mother never quite rest, always worried if she had given you enough. If none of the above rings true, then open yourself up to those closest to you. Someone close is in need of a healing! You become that ideal father figure, no matter what your gender. How you would be an ideal father figure, stern, fair, loving and accessible? It is that last trait that gives you the heebie-jeebies, that goose-bumps response. How does an accessible father behave? Be the change you want to be in the world, a wise person once said. Get access to your own loving, fair but stern nature, then display it proudly.

Aquarius/Aquarius Rising*(Jan 20-Feb 19): Wynton Marsalis said, “Louis Armstrong’s trumpet speaks to the possibilities available to the individual in a democracy.” That a jazz musician would see jazz through a significant cultural and social lens means also looking to those who created this new form of music. You are like Master Armstrong’s trumpet. Ripe with the possibilities of your mind’s creations, early in life you knew you were what some would consider freakishly different. But the more you left early upbringing, you move through and beyond artificially placed limitations. Imagine what forms of music the early jazz creators would have made without segregation, oppression or Jim Crow? Although an argument can be made it was the social, economic and racial firewalls that enhanced the need for innovation, wherever you fall in this debate, it is yours to initiate in conversation. Individuals must awaken to make democracy work. It begins with you and yours.

Pisces/Pisces Rising (Feb 18-Mar 20): Along with Gemini, Virgo and Sagittarius, you are what the old-time astrologers called “communicators.” Each sign that occurs when the seasons are changing communicate the possible future of the sign that follows. Aries follows Pisces. Without your well-intended communication of what our shared feelings mean, Aries would be a berserker, a fighter without any integrity, going from one tantrum to another. Even the milder form of Aries can start conflict where none needs to exist. At this time of year, we need your soothing ways. Your dreams may be deferred or postponed, but they cannot be denied or explained away. And for you to not seek life behind the veil of rational thought turns your intention for unity upside down and out of focus.

Aries/Aries Rising* (Mar 21-Apr 19): Begun in Scorpio. As the first sign of the zodiac, your life is filled with firsts. This could be your first lifetime in the physical body as man or woman (after many being the other). In one very real way, your soul strengthening itself through bravely looking at how to be brand-new when it comes to gender expectations. Artisan males, sensitive, aware and giving, can relate well to the warrior females, direct, passionate and self-affirming. Whether you are the firecracker brand of Aries or the more cerebral type, it is important to know that, like Scorpio, being more receptive works. You can run the world later, but first you must control yourself.

Taurus/Taurus Rising* (Apr 20-May 21): Self-reliance, that’s you. Being a recreational critic, that’s also you. Recreational critics go to the mall to shop as well as to take cheap shots at what others are wearing. A large portion of reality TV gives these people a bird’s-eye view into what others are doing wrong in their lives, well, not as it relates to their bank accounts. Bank accounts, that’s something you can respect. The measure of your success in a capitalist culture. With acquisitive Venus sashaying through your fifth house of joy, pleasure and appearances, you can easily believe the hype that you’ve gotten everything in your life based on your own efforts. Can I hear a little revisionist history playing in the background?

Gemini/Gemini Rising* (May 21-Jun 20): Begun in Scorpio. As the sign that has the most oscillating intellect, you can think your way anyway you please from Mata Hari to John Wayne to Marie Curie (killer, cowboy, healer). You think it, you become it. The Gemini males can corner the market on poetic behavior; the female can be as unsentimental regarding love as any Aquarian. The point is to use your brain expansively. Think of ways to transcend gender roles. Be confident enough to play the fulfilling role of ‘stay-at-home dad’ or the ‘first woman CEO.’ Let your conscience be your guide, not past traditions that were expected and/or mandate through less choice. Freedom begins with a thought. Continued in Aries.

Cancer/Cancer Rising* (Jun 21-July 21): You are aware that you are an empath through and through. Whether this ends up serving you in codependent ways depends all on your ability to speak up to get your needs met. During late summer, you have a helping energy of a quickened mind. Your inquisitive self asks just the precise question of those closest (peers, siblings, neighbors and such) to get them to admit to how much they are willing to support you (or not). It is not as easy as ‘love the one you’re with’ as it is love yourself enough to know with whom you want to love. In other words, it is the how and how much of love received that truly matters. And this weekend with the moon (mood) being in oh, so compatible Scorpio, why not be empathic regarding joy and pleasure?

Leo/Leo Rising* (July 22-Aug 22): You can be the playful and self-illuminating spirit or the demanding, controlling one. You’re ending a two-year cycle of those proverbial chickens coming home to roost. If you’ve enjoyed being petty and cruel (even in your thinking), you run the risk of no one caring when your life goes off path. However, when you shine your abundantly generous rays onto any and all you meet, even strangers will lend a hand. Drama is as drama does. If it won’t matter in several years, lighten up. If you cannot help but see that it matters now, then turn the drama into the healthy fun variety which can evolve into those ‘teachable’ moments. A little self-depreciative humor is the spoonful of sugar that helps your medicine go down. Please cease taking yourself so seriously, because I know that we do not. Cyndi Lauper sang it best nearly a quarter century ago, “Girls just wanna have fun!” Boys do, too.
