Big Harp’s Chris Senseney talks Saddle Creek, pianos from the ’70s

The Los Angeles husband-and-wife pairing of Chris Senseney and Stefanie Drootin-Senseney makes for a nice story. As their official bio puts it, in the span of three years, the pair “Met. Fell in love. Made a baby boy. Got married. Made a baby girl. Started a band.” That band, Big Harp, released its debut LP, White Hat, on Saddle Creek last year, and it’s a breath of fresh air for those a bit inured to the label’s plaintive emotionalism. On White Hat, the band’s sound is a time warp back to the ’70s. Chris recently answered a few of our questions in advance of Big Harp’s show at the Jackpot on Monday, March 19, opening for the Mynabirds.
