Kansas City sports go prime time: Rob Riggle to host the ESPYs

  • Rob Riggle’s love for the Chiefs is no act.

You can’t keep those plucky Kansans down in the world of entertainment. Comedian Rob Riggle, who has been everywhere this year, from film screens (The Lorax) to the Jumbotron at Arrowhead (when he tells you to make noise, you make noise), has been tapped to host the ESPYs.

“Straight up sex appeal,” Riggle said in a release, when asked why he would be hosting ESPN’s sports awards show. The straight-laced network suggested that it was his loyalty to his hometown teams – the Kansas City Royals, Chiefs and Kansas Jayhawks – that led to the selection. The annual sports awards show is slated for July 11 at 9 p.m.
