If there’s one thing Kansas City doesn’t play about, it’s a good latte—so when a café claims the title of KC’s Best Chai, you know I’m pulling up to investigate. Equal Minded Café did not disappoint.
From the first sip, you taste the difference. The spices come through warm and balanced—cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, clove, and black tea all playing their part without overpowering each other. The honey and agave add a gentle, natural sweetness that lets the spice shine instead of masking it, and the oat milk brings this velvety smoothness that somehow makes the drink feel cozy even though it’s iced. I’m not exaggerating when I say I had to stop myself from finishing it in three gulps. It’s easily one of the best chai lattes I’ve had in long time.
And the café itself delivers an equally strong impression. Equal Minded is bright, clean, and welcoming, with plenty of natural light filling the space. Coloful artwork is displayed throughout the café, adding character and culture. A bar along the front windows offers a comfortable spot to sit with your drink which can be ideal for getting work done, taking a break, or simply enjoying the view outside.
The space is bright, inviting, and carries an authentic sense of community. They also offer event space, and it’s easy to imagine any gathering there benefiting from the atmosphere Equal Minded has created.

Dos Lokos
Westport has a new go-to spot, and judging by the crowd inside just days after opening on November 7, Dos Lokos is already earning its place in the neighborhood. I stopped by with friends to get a feel for the menu and the energy, and left impressed—and full.
I decided to keep it simple to start: a classic margarita and a mix of chicken and steak tacos. The chicken tacos were the standout for me right away. Instead of the typical shredded chicken you see at most spots, Dos Lokos serves tender, well-seasoned pieces of chicken with real texture and flavor. It’s a small detail, but one that instantly sets them apart. The seasoning was bold without being overwhelming, and everything tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared.
The steak tacos held their own too. Juicy, savory, and well-balanced with their garnishes. Honestly, zero complaints on any of the food. It’s clear the kitchen knows what they’re doing.
And listen… those margaritas? Very easy to keep ordering. They have a fw different options, but I chose the margs made with agave instead of sugar, which gives them a smooth, clean sweetness that doesn’t overpower the tequila or leave you feeling weighed down. Balanced, refreshing, and exactly the kind of drink you can sip through an entire evening without regret.
The vibe inside Dos Lokos adds to the experience. The bar is fun, sports-forward, and still manages to be cute and welcoming. TVs line the space, making it a perfect hangout for catching Chiefs and KC Current games with other excited locals. You can tell they intentionally designed it to be a neighborhood gathering point on game days. Even the patio fits the energy—open, lively, and aligned with the sports-centered spirit of the city.
Dos Lokos may be new, but it already feels like a spot you’ll want to return to. Good food, solid drinks, and a space built for community and celebration? Westport got a win with this one.
