For those intimate with the KC and Lawrence music scene, watching the documentary 72 Musicians is like playing a game of who’s who. Which Phillips brother is that? And isn’t that Be/Non? Filmmaker Robert Moczydlowsky interviewed a slew of area singers, guitar slingers and general band folk. But he doesn’t identify them onscreen as they describe what it’s like to make music, tour, and play to empty chairs or sold-out clubs. The result is an engrossing portrait of the musical Everyman (or Everywoman), complete with passion, spirit, and hopes that are both high and jaded. Having premiered to a packed theater last July, 72 Musicians returns to the Screenland Armour (408 Armour in North Kansas City, 816-421-9700) for one showing tonight at 7. The Caves and Olympic Size perform after the screening. Tickets cost $10. Advance purchases include a copy of the film formatted for iPods and iPhones.
