24-FRAME PARTY PEOPLE

Because it’s foremost a celebration of independent filmmaking, it’s only fitting that Kansas City FilmFest 2010 is presented by an organization called the Kansas City Filmmakers Jubilee. Continuing through Sunday, primarily at AMC Mainstreet theater (1400 Main), the festival boasts more than 100 independent shorts and features from eight countries competing for juried awards, plus workshops, panels, seminars and other opportunities for filmgoers to interact with guest artists. FilmFest premieres at 7 p.m. tonight with a showcase screening of Debra Granik’s Winter’s Bone, winner of the 2010 Sundance Grand Jury Prize. Saturday’s 7 p.m. showcase, the remastered 1975 cult classic A Boy and His Dog, includes a discussion with director L.Q. Jones. Tickets, available online and at the AMC Mainstreet box office, are priced from $10 for single showings to $20 for showcase films to $60 for a festival pass. For tickets and a complete schedule, see kcfilmfest.org.
