2014 Kansas City Royals Tickets: The Top Five Matchups In KC
The Kansas City Royals are hoping this is the year they make it back to the playoffs. Last season there seemed to be light at the end of the tunnel as the Royals finished the season 86-76 just 6 games out of the second wild card spot. That success has led to a slight bump in ticket prices for the team, with Royals tickets jumping seven percent from last season. They’re still one of the cheapest tickets in the MLB, ranking 23rd out of the 30 teams. With the promising outlook for Kansas City’s season, they are becoming a bigger draw on the road against some of the top opponents in the majors. The Royals have just an average ticket price of $85.09 on the road, but a few road series during the season with a much higher average price.
7/18 – 7/20 at Boston Red Sox | Avg. Price: $159.97
The top series for the Royals on the road is against the defending champion Red Sox. The price far surpasses the Royals season road average, and even tops the Red Sox home average of $139.86. The Royals certainly aren’t the biggest draw on the Red Sox schedule but the series is boosted because it is the first series for both teams following the All-Star Break.
9/5 – 9/7 at Yankees | Avg. Price: $148.88
The Yankees were going to find their way on this list at some point. Not too surprising to see them right below the Red Sox. Unlike the Red Sox series, however, the price does not surpass the Yankees home ticket season average, which is $151.57. While the Yankees schedule has bigger rivalry games, the tickets are likely helped from the September series date. It’ll be the last month to see Derek Jeter in pinstripes, unless the team makes the playoffs.
9/8 – 9/10 at Detroit | Avg. Price: $115.72
Directly following the series in New York is another high-priced away game for the Royals. Like the Yankees and Red Sox, the Tigers sit high on the list for home ticket season average. The Tigers are fourth in MLB with $108.95 average. The Detroit Tigers schedule s going to feature the Royals plenty of times, as the two are in the same division. The Royals and Indians are the main AL Central challengers to Detroit, and a September matchup helps to drum up the price.
8/22 – 8/24 at Texas | Avg. Price: $114.85
Another top American League team makes its way onto this list. The Rangers are tenth in the MLB averaging $91.68 for home game tickets. The Rangers division might not offer a lot of challengers; the Angels have disappointed the last couple seasons, and neither the Seattle Mariners nor Houston Astros seemed primed for a playoff run. So outside the Oakland Athletics, the big draws on the Texas Rangers schedule are outside of the division. It appears the Royals made that list.
7/21 – 7/23 at White Sox | Avg. Price: $93.37
Rounding out this list is another division rival of the Royals, the White Sox. Chicago hasn’t been a great team the last few years, but being located in Chicago has its perks. They’re ninth in the majors with home game tickets averaging $91.69. As was the case with the Tigers, the White Sox schedule is going to feature the Royals plenty.
