18th Street Style

The only way you’ll get down the block of West 18th Street between Wyandotte and Baltimore is on a runway — the street has transformed into a ready-to-wear thoroughfare for “A Decadent Summer,” the 10th annual West 18th Street Fashion Show. The free event is hosted by the merchants of West 18th Street, led by Peregrine Honig’s Birdies Panties. At dusk, fashion lovers feast their eyes and ears on collections from 18 of Kansas City’s most talented designers, music by Mark Southerland, and enough camera flashes to turn night into day. Designers include the always outrageous Peggy Noland, Jovana Mirabile (fresh off an internship with Diane von Furstenberg and Michael Kors), Ukrainian transplant Nataliya Meyer, Sára Emami (who studied at Paris’ American Academy School of Fashion), and Jamilah Knight (a Fashion Institute of Technology grad). Anyone who has seen this extravaganza before knows that it gets steamy, which is why the savviest attendees reserve $35 “Spectator” seats through westeighteenthstreet.com.— Nadia Pflaum
