12th Street bridge closed due to ‘structural deficiencies,’ West Bottoms an island

I missed this Friday, but the city finally shut down the 12th Street bridge after an inspection found “structural deficiencies.” Really? Really? What took you so long? Driving across the 12th Street bridge always felt like a perilous journey over a rope bridge teetering on the verge of snapping. The bridge was great for snapping axles or popping out fillings.

Earlier this year, CJ wrote about the bridge’s money-sucking ways, and just this month, I wasn’t surprised to find the bridge down to two, metal plate-covered lanes.

The city says this is the final phase of construction to fix up the crumbly bridge and won’t reopen it until repairs are finished later this summer.

See ya in a few months, West Bottoms dwellers.
