Last year, Every Picture Tells a Story tweaked its short-film-about-visual-art format, changing its name to Every Song Tells a Story. “It turned into more of a music-video contest,” says event coordinator Brian Boye. “So we’re returning to our roots.” However, those roots can stretch. “If it can be considered art and has a story to tell, let’s hear it,” Boye explains. “Tattoos? Sidewalk chalk? You bet.” (Music? Not this time: “It’s limited to physical pieces.”) Boye’s own past entries, illustrative of the range that the contest covers, include a revelation about a teen’s bright abstract painting (she created it the night before she and her parents decided she should have an abortion) and an appreciation of his grandmother’s watercolor paintings. The five- to seven-minute films screen at 7:30 p.m. at Just-Off Broadway Theatre (3051 Central). Tickets cost $5 for members of the Independent Filmmakers Coalition and $8 for everyone else.
